Outdoor Education Teacher (bilingual Spanish speaker preferred)

Five Creeks Studio is seeking an experienced part-time teacher to join our community of families for the 2016-17 year and beyond. We are an outdoor, self-directed learning program currently serving children ages 2 ½ - 7. We spend the day in free play, connecting to nature, creating projects, farming, gathering in circle, singing, storytelling, and moving.

We believe love and comfort offer a strong foundation for curiosity, play, and emotional and intellectual growth. We aim to inspire children to develop a sense of interconnectedness and social responsibility by treating them with trust, respect and compassion. We know that it is not our role to teach children what to think, but to co-create a community that helps them learn how to think, ask questions, and explore. We provide children the opportunity to be curious, solve problems, and discover what lights them up.

Our ideal candidate will be a warm, nurturing, and passionate teacher who understands the unique needs of children. We are looking for someone to co-create an environment where children, teachers, and families are united through deep, meaningful, and generous attention to our work, our play, our environment, and each other.

We are committed to having a diverse staff so our children can experience role models and support from a leadership team of different cultural, racial, and life experiences. Candidates who speak spanish as a first language would be a great addition to our team. We are also interested in candidates with a commitment to social justice and teaching an anti-bias curriculum.

Desired qualifications:
--Comfort being in the outdoors, all day, in all weather conditions
--Physically fit and able to carry wear a big backpack comfortably
--Commitment to supporting the emotional well being of the children and adults in the community
--Minimum of three years experience working with children ages 2-9
--An ability to navigate conflict with compassion and empathy
--Ability to lead, educate, and work collaboratively with our classroom teaching team of parents
--Comfort leading small groups of children
--CPR, first-aid, and LiveScan fingerprinting required prior to start of year
--Ability to play and teach music a plus
--Experience in permaculture, somatics, outdoor education, project based learning, Reggio Emilia, Waldorf, self-directed learning, or progressive education a plus

We are looking for a part-time teacher to work approximately 10-15 hours per week between 9am and 4pm at two outdoor locations in Berkeley, CA, starting in September, 2016.

Compensation: $23-$28 an hour DOE with the possibility of increased hours, pay, and responsibility as we grow.

Please submit a resume and detailed letter of interest to fivecreeksstudio@gmail.com
